| Description: | The Board adopted the Psychiatric Services Development Plan in
April 1986. This review is based on discussions and submissions
from senior professional staff and activity data which reflects the
essential change in the service profile during the last 4 years.
The 1986 strategy, based on "Planning for the Future " emphasised
a new direction focused on a community orientated, patient centred
service. Change was underwritten by policies to transfer resources
to community facilities, the development of rehabilitation skills
and programmes and the placement of in-patients in settings
appropriate to their needs. The development of organisational
arrangements and operational policies and procedures during the
review period has facilitated the achievement of service goals and
have proven to be sufficiently adaptable to a variety of settings.
The Multi-disciplinary Team Model, led by a Consultant
Psychiatrist, is an effective arrangement for hospital based care
groups and sector services. |
