Description:
This report presents preliminary results from the National Survey of Childrens Dental Health conducted in 1984 by University College, Cork, on behalf of the Minister for Health. These preliminary results will deal with the principal aims of the survey which were: A) To measure the effectiveness of water flouridation. B) To estimate the changes in the levels of dental caries in Irish schoolchildren between 1961-'63 and 1984. C) To measure the levels of enamel opacities including fluorosis and other developmental defects in Irish schoolchildren in 1984. Estimates of other conditions included in the clinical examination, namely dentofacial anomalies, periodontal disease, trauma of permanent incisors, wearing of dentures and use of fissure sealants will be included in the main report. This latter report will also include sociological data collected from the parents of some 8 year old children and from some 15 year old children themselves.
