As part of the treatment benefit scheme administered by the Department of Social Welfare eligible insured persons are entitled to receive dental services from the private practitioner of their choice provided he has entered into an agreement with Department (as the vast majority have). Persons under 21 years also eligible for treatment if they have 26 paid or credited. contributions while those aged, over 2l years are eligible if they have 156 paid or credited contributions. Beneficiaries receive the standard range of dental treatment, e.g. fillings extractions, scaling, .free of charge and other items, e.g. dentures, gold plate clasps, on a grant-an-aid basis under which the insured person contributes approximately of the cost. Number insured for treatment benefit purposes 826,000
