This Guidance Note provides regulatory authorities, industrial manufacturers, marketing organisations, health professionals and other interested parties with guidance on the operation of the rules governing the composition and marketing of infant formulae and follow-on formulae as provided for in the European Communities (Infant Formulae and Follow-on Formulae) Regulations, 1998 to 2000. The principal purpose of the legislation and this guidance document is to contribute to the health of infants through mandatory and voluntary provisions, bearing in mind that the encouragement and protection of breast-feeding is an important aspect of health care.
