Mid Western Health Board progress review: psychiatric services 1986/89

Title: Mid Western Health Board progress review: psychiatric services 1986/89
Authors: Mid Western Health Board (MWHB)
Description: The Board adopted the Psychiatric Services Development Plan in
April 1986. This review is based on discussions and submissions
from senior professional staff and activity data which reflects the
essential change in the service profile during the last 4 years.
The 1986 strategy, based on "Planning for the Future " emphasised
a new direction focused on a community orientated, patient centred
service. Change was underwritten by policies to transfer resources
to community facilities, the development of rehabilitation skills
and programmes and the placement of in-patients in settings
appropriate to their needs. The development of organisational
arrangements and operational policies and procedures during the
review period has facilitated the achievement of service goals and
have proven to be sufficiently adaptable to a variety of settings.
The Multi-disciplinary Team Model, led by a Consultant
Psychiatrist, is an effective arrangement for hospital based care
groups and sector services.

Report of Committee on Health Education in Secondary Schools

Title: Report of Committee on Health Education in Secondary Schools
Authors: Mid-Western Health Board (MWHB)
Description: This Report sets out recommendations and guidelines for the development of health
education programmes in second-level schools in the Mid-west. Region. It examines
the role of the family, and the school, appropriate content areas, and the most
suitable methodology and structures to be employed It sets down a framework which
is appropriate to the needs and values of the Region.
The publication of this report is timely in view of recent government announcements
on health education/promotion and especially in view of the current debate which
has arisen with the publication of the consultative document on health
entitled "Health - The Wider Dimensions" from which it is noted that.
"Health Education will continue to play a vital role in equipping people with the
knowledge to make healthy choices."
The Committee is confident that this report will contribute to the development
of health education in the Mid-West region. It trusts that it will enable schools to
help their pupils to become responsible citizens; to see themselves as part of
the fabric of society, touching and being touched by these around them, and the
environment. In this way, it. is hoped that young people will take reponsibility
for their own health and for that of the community.

Plan for women's health

Title: Plan for women's health
Authors: Mid-Western Health Board (MWHB)
Description: This Plan is the fulfilment of commitments made in the Health Strategy 'Shaping a Healthier
Future'. The National Document, A Planfor Women's Health 1997-1999, produced by the
Depru tment of Health was the result of a unique process of consultation which had taken
place with women over the previous eighteen months about their health needs and their
priorities for improvements in the health services.
The purpose of the Women's Health Advisory Committee is "to advise the Board on the
implementation of the recommendations to improve health services for women that emerged
during the consultative process".
The aim of the Women's Health Plan is to maximise the health and social gain of women
residing in the Mid-Western Health Board area.
